The AP reports:
“Sunni leader Saad Hariri called on Hezbollah head Hassan Nasrallah to work with him to end the conflict between their factions and ‘pull fighters off the street … to save Lebanon from hell.’”
This assumes there is some spark of of humanity within the person of Hezbollah’s secretary general. Problem is, there is not: Nor does Nasrallah have any qualms about sending Lebanon to “hell.”
Let’s not forget, this is a man who presides over one of the world’s most ruthless terrorist armies: An army whose leaders (including clerics like Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah and Naim Qassim) have hailed the recently assassinated Hezbollah butcher Imad Mughniyeh as “a pillar” of “the resistance” (meaning Hezbollah), and advocated the use of suicide bombers as a justifiable and honorable means of waging war.
So, Nasrallah may at some point temporarily call off his dogs — “may” and “temporarily,” mind you — but not unless it is politically, strategically, or tactically expedient. He would never withdraw his fighters for the purposes of saving Lebanon from “hell.”
For Nasrallah and his ilk, it is not about Lebanon: It is about jihad.
